Floral CoLab presents a special guest speaker presentation: Anna Jane Kocon & Jill Rizzo; Local Growing & Design
Field of Artisans x Jamestown Arts Center Pop-Up
Meet two local Rhode Islanders who have made flowers their livelihood!
In the 40's and 50's many florists had their own gardens to work from. With the advent of jet engines in the ’70s, it became easy and affordable to fly flowers into markets from areas where the weather is consistently nice. It nearly wiped out U.S.-grown flowers. Now the pendulum is swinging back.
Meet Anna Jane Kocon, owner and wholesale flower farmer at Little State Flower Co., who is growing locally to make it easier for floral designers and Do-It Yourself (DIY) brides to reduce their carbon footprint.
Jill Rizzo of Studio Choo East ( acclaimed author of The Flower Recipe and The Wreath Recipe book), Jill designs for events using only locally sourced flowers and materials.
For their clients: florists, brides, and party planners, it means having access to unique flowers in the prime of their freshness and having bouquets, centerpieces, and designs that are comprised of local, sustainable product. Come hear their story, how their businesses evolved and the collaborative partnership they have today! Copies of Jill's book and flowers from Anna's farm will be available for sale.
