Rhode Island Re-Thread

How do incorporate nature and the environment into your products and/or creation process?

“Nature and the environment are at the heart of Rhode Island Rethread. My work focuses on upcycling textiles that already exist—vintage denim, men’s dress shirts, and other secondhand fabrics—so they can be transformed into something new instead of ending up in landfills. By reusing materials, I’m reducing waste while highlighting the value of resources we already have. My products, from jackets to baby bibs, dog collars, reusable paper towels, iced coffee sleeves, and redesigned women’s tops, all come from fabrics that have been thoughtfully repurposed and given a second life.’

“My cyanotype creations are developed using sunlight! Each print is made on handmade paper, often utilizing paper scraps so that nothing goes to waste. This spring, I will also start using other natural elements, such as plants and ocean water, to develop and tone my cyanotypes. The result is a beautiful print that was made using nature to create a one of a kind work of art.”

Wander and Stick

How do incorporate nature and the environment into your products and/or creation process?

“Nature & the environment of a place is the entire background behind my brand! I find the most inspiration by getting out of my head and into the outdoors, searching for textures and patterns that speak to me. I love nature photography, and often use photos I’ve taken to enhance the idea behind my drawings. The coastal-themed products that I made recently are based on animals and activities seen in New England, such as fishing and seagulls. I take these ideas loved by locals and turn them into fun images for gifts!”

“All of my work is focused on the ocean, most more specifically on the oyster. I grew up in New England, with a love for nature and seafood. I now think about the environmental changes that are limiting oysters ability to thrive as an essential part of the ocean ecosystem, and want to honor them. I find the deepest beauty in the natural world, and want to respect and protect it.”
